2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Price and Review

A crossover with the soul of a sports car.

2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio is ranked 12th out of 15 Compact Luxury SUVs. Alfa Romeo Stelvio is a new model for 2018. Unfortunately for the Italian car manufacturer, its first SUV finishes near the bottom of our compact compact SUV because It’s just not so much a competitor’s vehicle.

After launching the 4C sports car and Giulia sedan, Alfa Romeo is ready to shift its U.S. comeback into high gear with a compact Stelvio luxury crossover. With the combination of infectious and athletic killer lines, Stelvio proves Alfa Romeo can make objects desire out of anything. It’s not perfect for every situation, nor does it win every category against its competition, but Stelvio does some things to do by some crossovers: stand out.

2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio performance

Most crossovers are not meant to be car drivers, though some have suped-up versions that force this platform to be played. Stelvio, though, has the performance baked into his bones. For example, all trim levels accept the same 280-horsepower turbo four-cylinder engine (the most powerful base station in its class) and eight-speed transmission. This pair pulls Stelvio very quickly, while the suspension and elevation is relatively low (for crossover) fixed cornering and stable.

My highest praise is given on the wheel, which is sharp, fast, and accurate – three adjectives are not often used when discussing crossovers. Undoubtedly, this quality is reinforced by some of the options and features in the trim Ti Sport of my higher test car (larger wheels, more sporty suspension suspensions, etc.), but there is an athleticism attached to the rare Stelvio in between crossovers. You can hear it with the exhaust tone.

2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Styling

Few people know what Stelvio is, but everyone thinks he is beautiful. During the week I drove a car, a half dozen people commented on the good looks of this crossover, but nobody could ever name her and few had heard of Alfa Romeo (ugh, kids lately). Not important; With tempting designs like Stelvio and his twin sedans, Giulia, the Americans will soon reconcile themselves with this Italian brand that has been absent from our market since 1995.

2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Interior

Stelvio has poor visibility of the driver’s seat. The rear window is small, the pillars are thick, and the rearview camera only fills a small portion of the 8.8 inch infotainment screen (also does not offer a 360 degree view). Thankfully the front and rear parking sensors are standard equipment on the Stelvio Ti Sport model (the option is $ 800 at some lower trim levels).

The curved shape of the Stelvio and the body that wraps it slightly decreases in passenger space and fewer cargo than its competitors. It’s down an inch here and cubic feet are there in almost every interior measurement. Hey, this is the price you pay to see this good.

While Stelvio prices compete well with the all-wheel-drive version of the Audi Q5, the BMW X3, the Jaguar F-Pace, the Mercedes-Benz GLC, and the Porsche Macan – true luxury vehicles – no wrath. Most of the interior lack competition in terms of quality of materials used. For example, the interior features a dark, colorless plastic and cheap soft touch material that is below par for this segment. The sole exception is the original aluminum paddle shifter.
